Efficiency Features
I modeled and mapped the grenade launcher with 3ds Max. The launcher renders with the following efficient combination of 3D modeling, graphics and Web development.
- Grenade Launcher 3D model prepared with the minimum number of vertices. (Low Poly)
- Launcher elements combined into one mesh then mapped with one baked texture. (RTT)
- The explosion renders with a texture atlas and WebGL blending. No need to switch shaders. (Blending)
- The launcher and explosion quad load into one VBO with both texels and vertices. (One VBO)

The launcher's low vertex count (Low Poly) enables faster download of the model and quicker initializtion.
3ds Max's Render to Texture

All elements of the model are combined into one mesh.
There's no need to download multiple textures
for each element on the mesh,
or mutliple meshes.
The explosion displays with a texture atlas (Atlas) and WebGL blending. This enables developers to avoid time consuming shader switches.
There's no need for expensive Vertex Buffer Object (VBO) switches with this example either. The grenade launcher vertices, texture atlas quad vertices, grenade launcher texels and texture atlas texels all reside in one VBO.
